When you hold out your cat’s brush, does she rub all over it by herself? She could probably do that all day, but you have things to do. Our kits like the Hagen Catit Self Groomer, we have it attached to a favorite corner for rubbing. I used Command strips to attach it, instead of the ones in the package. I trust the Command strips to come off the wall easily but hold tightly. There are a lot of these corner-type self-groomers, but the Hagen is not a hideous industrial beige.

We bought our cats a Fantasy Pet CMYW Cat Magnet years ago. The older two sort of ignored it, but when we adopted two strays, they took ot it immediately. It seemed to be a safe place for them at first, then they learned to groom themselves with it. It’s been in use for well over ten years now and has certainly paid for itself over and over again.
Good stuff, but we tried #4 (Fantasy Pet CMYW Cat Magnet) for our short-haired, white kitty and ended up tossing it after we noticed little scratches just above her eyes, where the hair is very short. I believe it was scratching her sensitive skin, but she probably kept using it because it was itchy–where it had scabbed up–and felt good. Might work better for a long-haired cat, though.
The Brush Up Scratcher/Grooming Cat Post from SmartyKat looks very interesting, and it’s quite affordable. Thinking strongly about trying one! Thanks for sharing those other products, too. My Mainey man asks to be brushed every morning before he eats, and we’ve made it into a ritual.
I have the Catit, and like their stuff but the three cats in the house only care about it when the catnip well is full. And then only until they empty it. Has anyone tried the others? I’d live to find something for the pair that are very touch oriented.
I have the item #2 self grooming cat salon for my cats. They can’t use it because the top rubber scratcher part that fits into the base will not stay in the base. I have tried everything other then smashing it with a mallet to get it to stay in the base. If I had kept the receipt, I would have returned the item. I might have been unlucky and got a defective one but I will never know because I will not be trying another one. It looks like it would be a really great item for cats but the one I purchased was not.

She was a field stray before I adopted her from the shelter, and for some reason she would like nothing more than to munch on a silicone spatula or hairbrush bristles or, given the chance, this HUGE grooming post!

Hi, you left out a clever self-grooming gizmo. You mount it with double-sticky tape at cat height, and your kitty can self-groom any time, and it takes up almost zero space! This retails for under 10 USD, and it is called the:
Cat-a-Comb.
I read this post and decided to buy a self-grooming item for my cats. Well, it was a total waste of money. Neither of them will go near it. These things are CRAP!
Only one of my cats uses the SmartyKat post, but that’s good enough for me as he LOVES the thing. I hardly ever see him pass by it without swiping his body on it, and occasionally giving himself a good face rub. The funny thing is he looks so much like the cat in the ad picture – complete with the “high button sweater” look where his tabby just meets under his neck before the white belly starts. I occasionally anoint it with a dusting of “the good” catnip as I do with the scratching toys.
My cats loved the Catit groomer attached to a wall corner. We discovered after buying it that our cat had a definite plastic allergy – we’d suspected for awhile and had mostly removed plastic bowls, etc. but knew for certain after he developed a bald spot from using the Catit. (The non-allergic cat did not have any issues, so it’s not the Catit’s fault.) Unfortunately almost every self-groomer available is made of plastic, meaning we don’t have a good alternative. If anyone knows of a non-plastic option, I’d love to hear it!
