Here’s an interesting and attractive piece of cat furniture that incorporates unique textures and quite a bit of functionality. It’s the Catit Design Home Banana Leaf Cat Tower, available in 2-shelf and 3-shelf versions. The manufacturer sent us one to test and we’ve been giving it a good workout. I admit, I was skeptical at first, wondering if it would be sturdy enough. After a couple of months of testing, I can honestly say that this is an excellent piece of cat furniture! It was relatively easy to put together with just a handful of pieces, it’s quite attractive and would look good with all kinds of decor, but most importantly, THE CATS LOVE IT! It is almost always occupied and they use all the different levels. I often find multiple levels occupied at once.
As for the stability, it is pretty heavy and well-weighted at the bottom, but if you leave it in the center of the room, they can knock it over if they fling their bodies at it, which is bound to happen during crazy cat time. I have mine against a wall and I think they have only knocked it over once or twice.
The banana leaf texture is perfect for scratching and, so far, has remained looking like new, even with regular use. The platforms are covered with a microsuede that’s easy to brush clean. The bottom platform is actually kind of like a hammock, the fabric is stretched over a circular base that is open in the middle, like a donut, providing a little give when kitty curls up on it.
The most shocking thing to me is that the dangling toy is STILL ATTACHED! Honestly, I thought that would be torn off within minutes of setting it up, but it’s still there and they swat at it every time they walk by. Impressive!
The Banana Leaf Cat Tower is also relatively inexpensive, the 2-shelf selling for about $80 on Amazon and the 3-shelf for just under $130. If you’re looking for a nice piece of cat furniture that doesn’t take up a lot of room, you might want to give this a try. Both styles are currently available on Amazon.
I may have to give this a try! Do you think it will stand up being “tested” by our 10 cats? lol I have purchased the CritterZone, another product you have tested, and I LOVE It! Thanks for the info!
You have really out done yourselves….this new cat tower is just to cool. Love the natural look. Just love it!
Gorgeous photos — LOVE these, as I do the entire Catit line. We have a banana-leaf footstool from IKEA that our eldest boy, declawed by his first caregivers who were unaware of the realities of this procedure, prefers above all other surfaces when he wants to give his poor front paws a workout. After several years of him enjoying it in this way, it still looks great. I would recommend the Catit furniture to all!
Thanks for the review, I’m really thinking about getting the 3 tier one once it’s available on Amazon. I just can’t bring myself to purchase the typical cat tree. I just don’t think my cats would like one, but I do think they’d like this.
