I think someday I would like to build a house that is designed completely around one of these. Pennsylvania-based artist Derek Bernstein creates these spectacular cat and mouse bronze door knockers using traditional lost wax casting techniques. The results are haunting and stunning.
Each piece is unique, signed and numbered. They are designed for use as a functional door knocker or as a wall sculpture. Quite an investment at $950 and up, however, I guarantee none of your neighbors will have one!
Visit the Casa Del Gatto Etsy shop for more info. Thanks to Hauspanther reader Heather for the find.
*You and me, too, Kate!* 😉 *WOW*
Creepy….reminds me of the sad carcasses my cats lovingly deposit on the dining room floor every night…not something I’d hang….. anywhere.
That’s extremely morbid if you think about it:(
How surprising and sad these are advertised by Hauspanther. For those of us who believe cats should be indoor only, and not hunt, torture or kill literally billions of birds and other small animals, this glorifies it.
I would not have that sculpture because I don’t like looking at violence and I feel sorry for the mouse. Maybe such a mouse will be I in another life. However, I also feel sorry for cats who spend their whole lives indoors, and I might get reincarnated as a cat too. Cats evolved to hunt and to be carnivores and enjoy the outdoor nature; and I cannot improve all that in my lifetime. If mice are in my house now, I’ll get rid of them, whether by mousetrap or by cat or some other means, and by cat’s preferable because at least that’s closer to the natural way of things and the cat benefits from it. It’s like recycling. I hope the spirit of the mouse up in mouse heaven will appreciate the cycle of life. And, mice evolved to run and hide from animals such as cats. Remove cats, and mice lack something.
So your cat is vegan?
They don’t want to see it, but it is a daily reality for the cat!!
WOW! Mind-blowing! Would actually be afraid of someone stealing it off my door. But, no way I could afford, so no worries lol!
Magnificent! If this was on my door, I’d be afraid of someone prying it off and stealing it. But, since I could never afford it, no worries 😀
How unusual. I would love one. If I win the lottery I would have one of these to go with my new lottery house.
I absolutely love it! Cats have a long historic history.👍🏼❤️
Would worry about someone breaking my storm door to pry it off my door, That would leave displaying it on an inside door or wall – defeats the purpose of a door knocker but would still make a wonderful indoor decoration!
Can I order that door knockers from you please
Love these ❤️ Beautifully showcases the Nature of cats ❤️
