Susi over at The Glam Cat came up with a great DIY project to keep her cats Smokey Bones and Felis Lynx Rufus entertained, and it’s a project that anyone can do! Cat’s love puzzle boxes that challenge them by tapping into their predator instinct. You can purchase all kinds of puzzle toys for cats (check out our Gear Guide for some suggestions) but Susi made an awesome one using inexpensive materials.
She filled the box with small toys and treats and the cats loved it. They loved it so much she had to make another one to avoid fighting! Visit The Glam Cat and get all of Susi’s tips to make one for your cats!
Thank you for the cat puzzle box idea! How simple and yet how fun! And it would be easy to change it up with different containers, toys and treats to keep it interesting. I love it! And your website too…from the interesting pet beds (we have a suitcase bed the kitties love) to unique items for kitty loving people I know I can count on you to make my day.
Oh I definitely will be trying this! What a great idea. I have a gobbler who loves her dry food. I love the idea of making her work for it a little to slow her down some.
Great, great idea! We have a couple of prefabricated plastic ones that are larger; young kittens, especially, love playing in these!
Love this idea! Actually have a spare tupperware the perfect size so I’ll be making one of these today!!!
How do you keep them from cutting themselves on the sharp cut edge?
You melt the edges a little with a lighter to smooth them out.
Just wanted to say that as a bird lover I thank you. No mention in the article about that being important to you!
We just made this, are they asked to actually get the treats out? Watching them it seems impossible.
