With 13 cats at my house right now (including two fosters), let’s just say that there’s a LOT of scooping going on. So, litter scoop design is pretty much always top of mind. I can’t even count how many different litter scoops I’ve tried over the years, but my current favorite is the DuraScoop Metal Cat Litter Scoop. It’s a sturdy metal scoop with a non-slip handle. The scoop is nice and wide with curved sides and the holes are a good size for sifting. I like metal scoops better for scraping the bottom of the box, they don’t bend or break. I got mine at Petsmart, you can also order it from Amazon.
This is indeed a fantastic scoop, and will last a lifetime.
The one comment I would make about it however, is that if you do get one, roll the bottom edge of the rubber up a little then run a bead of either epoxy or super glue round the handle before rolling the rubber back down again, as it has a habit of slowly shifting up the handle otherwise.
No big deal, as the handle itself is smooth and doesn’t need the rubber, but you might as well try to make it stay on as long as possible.
My DuraScoop is INDISPENSABLE! If you have a litter box, you need this incredibly strong and sturdy scoop. Trying to use a lightweight plastic one is just ludicrous, it’s like trying to shovel a sandbox with a cocktail fork. You need the right tool for the job. Buying a metal DuraScoop is the best investment I ever made and I am happy every time I use it.
This is the best litter scoop EVER. I’ve always lived with many cats, so the litter boxes get lots of action. I was so tired of plastic scoops that couldn’t do the job, or broke trying. I finally invested in a DuraScoop, and it has done its job for many years now and still keeps going!! It’s worth every penny! If you have a cat, you need one of these.
This is the best scooper ever made! Sturdy, works perfectly, well made. It may cost a little more but worth every penny! I have had mine for 5 years or more!!!!
Love these scoops! You can bleach and sterilize them too! I have one for each litter box. The only thing that would make them better is if they were made from stainless steel and not aluminum, stainless shows less wear and tear.
I have 3 of these. They are durable and do the job better than any other scoop I’ve used.
I’ve owned one of these “industrial” scoops for about 2 years. BEST PURCHASE EVAH!!
I have 2 of these that I bought some time ago. yes, they are very durable, but, the slots are not quite big enough to scoop quickly. you have to do a lot of shaking! I have foster/rescue cats (lots) & many litter boxes. am always in search of the “perfect” litter scoop! anyone have other suggestions?
When I found these several years ago, I realized that I’d found the Holy Grail of cat littler scoops! I have one for each floor. Shelly, the way I scoop quickly is to pour the unsoiled (scoopable) litter over the front lip of the scoop, rather than letting everything sift through the slots. If some escapes, I know where it is and can then sift that part. That makes the scooping go much more quickly. Since the scoop is so large and deep, you can do that – you would not be able to with a shallower one. I really love these scoops, and have given many as gifts.
This is the best Scooper! After replacing a couple of plastic ones in the past I wanted to get a sturdy one. I came across this one at Petsmart a few years ago. Yes years and it still works great! It’s worth the buy.
Do you happen to know if Feline Pine pellets will fall through the scoop? (The only scoop that I have found that works with pine pellets is the Ultra Pet Little Pearls scoop, but it is plastic…)
i bought this scoop a few months ago. it is a godsend! i volunteer at a shelter where they use clay litters. heavy litter can be tough to scoop through, and this scoop handles it beautifully! so much better than plastic. i highly recommend it!
I have this scoop too and totally agree – it’s the BEST!!
I have one of these my cat sitter gave to us for Christmas. SUPER durable! You could shovel snow with this guy!!!! Great for multiple scooping.
I have 2 cats & switching from plastic litter scoopers to a metal is an improvement. It makes the job so much easier. It was so gross when the shovel part would break when I’d scoop something gross stuck on the bottom or side of the litter box. And the shovel part is a little but larger & lets me do a better job.
I accidentally threw my first one away with the cat litter and was so upset! I went out and bought another one because these are the best!
I am a professional cat sitter, and every time I go to a client’s home & see they use a plastic scoop, I sigh. They’re unsanitary & can’t be cleaned very well. I used to use a stainless steel slotted long-handled serving spoon (would get them at dollar stores) but now I use this scoop, and recommend it to all my clients, as it can be sterilized, and is the last litter scoop you’ll ever buy!
The only thing I can say about this scooping tool is that it ROCKS!!(
I have given some to family members as holiday gifts!!
best? NOT.
It is useless on damp clumps – clogs and sticks and nothing but a metal bristle brush will clean it. Clogs the holes immediately. At least with the plastic scoppers you can bang it around inside the cat litter box a few times and that stuff falls off.
It also has only 2 small welds holding the handle on; I do not expect it to last long before it comes apart.
Yes, it is great for old dry clump cleaning but unfortunately with multiple cats, daily cleaning is a must so you will run into the damper pee clumps often. If on the otherhand you don’t clean your litter boxes for a week at a time, then it probably would work well for you – but then again, you are not likely to bother anyway so dont waste your money.
It looks like a solid aluminum casting so where are the welds?
Still and always the BEST scoop available.
