This incredible modern cat house was created by Sarah Chou, a design student at the University of Alberta. The project was a collaboration with Jared Schmidts and found its inspiration in Moshe Safdie’s Habitat ’67. The finished piece was donated to the Edmonton Humane Society for a fundraiser. I do hope Sarah tries her hand at more modern cat design!
Reminiscent of Frank Lloyd Wright…for cats 😉
Great piece! Pare it down to the two center cubes (the while cube and the birch one on top of that) and it would make a great doube-duty cat tree and end table in a living room! I need one of those! o0o0o, ideas… Really need to take that furniture-making class… =^)
Needs to climb higher!
I wouldn’t think my cats would be attracted to thes cat houses. My cats go for things that a soft and cozy with textures they can dig their claws into. Basically the opposite of Sarah Chou’s cat house designs.
I visited Habitat when it was brand new — at Montreal’s Expo ’67. What brilliant architectural innovation! I was stunned.
Now it’s fun to see it reinterpreted for our kitty friends. Congratulations to this next gen of architects.
I volunteer at a cat shelter and this would be wonderful. Are there plans available?
