Both pets and people can suffer from depression when not exposed to enough natural light. Here’s a solution to cheer up kitty (and you, too!). It’s the Sol Box from Portland, Oregon-based Pawsitive Lighting. It provides light therapy for your pet as a holistic alternative to treating depression, rather than resorting to pharmaceuticals.
The compact design provides filtered UV light that can help improve your cat’s mood in just 30 to 45 minutes per day. Benefits of light therapy include increased energy, decreased anxiety, enhanced sleep and elevated mood.
The Sol Box is manufactured in England and is available from PawsitiveLighting.com for $199, including shipping.
Looks very comforting and comfortable!
they do not give the quantity of lux at any distance: is it serious? It is expensive…
When I had to use SAD lamps, I tested several and noticed my cat was a good indicator. She got interested only in the efficient one – of course the last one I tested, the biggest and most expensive one. The smaller, cheaper, more practical ones did not work for me and she ignored them. The big, expensive, efficient one: she laid in front of it, as soon as i turned it on!
which lamp was the big expensive one please?

And just how does one coerce a cat to sit in front of this in order to benefit?
How does one coerce a cat to do anything?
I have been using light therapy for over 15 years for severe seasonal affective disorder (SAD) My senior cats like to sit in front of the light every morning with me even though it doesn’t put out any heat. They know it is good for them.
Seriously? MY light box didn’t cost that much. Do pets really need their own light box?
I read this may help with seasonal alopecia and hair loss in dogs. I’m going to try it for my two poms and see if it helps.
Cats need sunlight. Direct. I’m considering a new kitty as I just lost a 19yr old and my apt doesn’t get direct sunlight. I will have to get a sun lamp!
