There are lots of cats who do not like closed doors, and what do they do to show their displeasure? They scratch at the carpeting under and around the door. Well, here’s a simple solution! It’s the CarPET Scratch Stopper™, a heavy duty floor mat that’s cut to fit under a door, extending on both sides to keep kitty from destroying the carpet.
The creator of the CarPET Scratch Stopper started by purchasing regular office floor mats and cutting them down, but quickly found that this was too expensive and she was having difficulty cutting the edges and corners properly. Based on lots of experimentation, these mats are made specifically for this purpose. They are thin enough to fit under closed doors, plus they have grippers on the bottom to hold the mat in place.
The CarPET Scratch Stopper is available for 28″, 30″ and 32″ door widths for $24.95 each. They are currently running a special, buy one, get one at 50% off. Visit carpetscratchstopper.com to order.
We needed these before we scratched the carpeting in the doorway!
I need this! I have a “foster room” and use throw rugs, I attempted a plastic runner cut to fit and it didn’t have enough weight.
They were “out of stock” of the size I needed… glad they will let me know when they are back in stock via email.
How did you get a picture of my doorway! This an amazing idea, and as soon as I measure my doorway, I’m buying one!
These are brilliant, I am so buying. Right now we have an ugly rubber doormat that I cut to fit just inside the doorway. Definitely going to replace it with this!
This is a good idea. Unfortunately, mine ignores the carpet and goes for the door itself. She reaches under and claws at the underside, which is impossible to sleep through. If only I could find something to fill the gap between the floor and the bottom of the door! I’ve tried shoving towels in, but she’s too smart and just shoves them back out. I’ve had no choice but to cave to her wishes and keep the door(s) open.
is it actually the door that is kind of rattling when your cat plays underneath it? my cats play under the door so i stick a washcloth, folded over just enough not to spring the door, and close the door on it which eliminates the rattling. this does not, however, eliminate their mewing LOL.
I love this idea and I am buying 2 now while they are on sale. Even though my cats have already ruined my carpet, scratched the walls and anything else they thought of, this will help stop future damage. We keep buying a heavy door rug and cutting it down, but it only takes them a month and it’s clawed and looking bad.
However, for the under the door problem, maybe you could try SCATT from PetSmart (@$35)and this could work. It’s a attachment you put on top of an air can that senses motion and sprays air. This works on my cats to keep them out of places I don’t want them going. Maybe your cat would get scarred and quit. I tried the beeping mat to keep them off furniture and put it under the door, but they just yanked (clawed) it into the room and the sensor kept going off and wouldn’t quit. They are SUCH BRATS, but I love them anyway! Good luck!!
You should try one of those draft stoppers that have a bumper on either side of the door. To prevent the shredding of that try using a cat repellent spray on the bumpers. Hope that helps!
Fortunately this is not a problem we have now, but oh! a couple of houses ago, you should have SEEN it! Where were these when we needed them? 😉
I foolishly thought that my cats were the only ones who did this. OMG! I need three or four of these! Off to measure the doorways… Thank you thank you thank you!
What a fantastic idea, I definitely need to get some!
An answer to a prayer! Ordering today! Thank you!
Well, I thought I was going to buy them today, but I need 2 28″ ones which are out of stock and a 27″ which you don’t make. Guess I’ll be sticking with SSSCat can for now. 🙁
why not buy a piece from lowes or home depot and cut it to size? it comes on a roll for putting on top of carpets and has little teeth like things to keep it from moving. as far as i know it only comes in runner widths.
These are actually much sturdier than the material that you are talking about. They are made of a stiff, thick translucent plastic, more like the mat you put under an office chair, which would be very difficult to cut yourself. This is a pretty great product!
$24.95!?!?!?!
That’s crazy…you can purchase the same clear durable plastic with feet (aka the grips) for $3 a foot (by 3ft wide).
Even with buying 4ft, you will save a lot by just cutting the shape you need.
And the $3 price per foot is what the local hardware store charges here in Los Angeles.
A belated thanks for the idea – $1.28/foot in DC and flexible enough that I could cut it with regular scissors to the exact shape I need (my doors, which I assumed are standard size, are 35″ so the above options wouldn’t have worked anyway). Bought enough for two doors for just over $10 and last night heard my cat pacing awkwardly outside my door not exactly sure what to do with herself!
Is this a material you can buy at a hardware store? The only place I’ve seen any material like this is at an office supply store, but those mats were ridiculously expensive ($70+). It’s more than a year after the fact, but I hope you have some info. I have 36″ doors, and my cats are worse at 1 year old than they were as brand new kittens.
I need one of these for around the cat litter. It’s not that she doesn’t use the cat litter, she just misses sometimes and gets it on the towel that I have under it right now. Leading to scratching at the carpet around the litter. I’ve looked around but can’t seem to find any larger litter boxes than the one I have.
I made my own litter boxes.

look at clear (or colored) plastic storage containers, especially the kind that go under the bed unless you want a deeper one.
Would have bought two of the Carpet Scratch Stoppers BUT you are out of the 28inch size! Hope you get them in SOON!
anybody know the dimensions of this product when cut in the T shape
I wish it was available in smaller sizes. I live in an apartment & the bathroom doors are only 23 1/2 inches wide.
