Do you know a cat shelter that needs a face lift? Well, here’s your chance to help them out! The folks over at The Vertical Cat are generously donating $1,000 worth of their cat climbing products to help one deserving shelter “catify” their space.
And that’s not all! The winner of the “Catification Makeover” will also receive a free phone consultation with the official “Catification Team” — The Cat Daddy himself, cat behaviorist Jackson Galaxy, and yours truly, Kate Benjamin, Cat Style Expert and founder of Hauspanther.
We’ll work with the winning shelter to design a cat room using The Vertical Cat’s shelves, stairs and trees. The winner of last year’s Catification Makeover, Carol’s Ferals, made terrific used of their prize package to create a wonderful space for the cats in their care. The winning shelter gets to choose a custom finish for their climbing products, so of course Carol’s Ferals chose their signature orange.
But Wait, There’s More!
We will be choosing ten finalists for the Catification Makeover and all ten shelters will get some great prizes! After nominations are complete, we will post the top ten finalists for you to vote for your favorite. The shelter with the most votes will win the grand prize, including the $1,000 package from The Vertical Cat and the phone consultation with me and Jackson. The rest of the finalists will be ranked according to the number of votes they get and they will receive the following:
The second place finalist will receive a 5-tier Cat Condo, the third place finalist will receive a Bunk Bed, and the fourth place finalist will receive a Single-tier Hammock all from Auntie Em Creations.
The second and third place finalists will each receive a 3 Ramp Wall Package and a set of Cat-Themed Wall Decals compliments of CatsPlay.com.
The second place thru tenth place finalists will each receive a 23″ Cat Shelf from The Vertical Cat.
And finally, all ten finalists will receive prize packages including a Valerian Spiced Kitty Cuddler Cat Toy from Plain Brown Tabby; Lion Lures from Tiger Teasers; a case of 12 cage scratchers from Stretch & Scratch; and an assortment of designer cat toys from Hauspanther. Whew! That’s a lot of loot!

I nominate Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter in East Hanover, NJ. The staff always goes the extra mile for prospective owners and the pets in their care. http://www.njshelter.org
What a plethora of pleasures! Heading over to nominate right now >^^<
Colony Cats in Dublin Ohio is a wonderful no kill shelter where my family and I volunteer. This shelter is in desperate need of a makeover. I have adopted 3 shelter cats, 2 of which came from Colony Cats.
Colony Cats is an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose primary mission is to address cat overpopulation in central Ohio through public awareness and spay/neuter efforts. Since 2002, the organization has facilitated spay/neuter of nearly 9,000 cats and dogs, and placed more than 6,500 pets in homes.

Cat House on the Kings is such an amazing organization….and they would love this!
Wow~ All About Animals really needs this in our main room!
I want to help Hope for the animals shelter!!!!!!!!!!
I recommend Colony Cats in Dublin, Ohio.
I had the wonderful opportunity to work with Adrienne after she took 5 Persians we rescued from an over breeder. Although they were not from her area and were not in good health, she agreed and they were adopted within a week. In turn I was honored to help with one of hers in my area. SPHR’s arms & hearts reach far and wide!
I nominate the Seattle Humane Society in Belleuve, WA
I nominated a local Spay & Neuter Clinic called PetLuv because they do have a cat adoption room.
I nominate Colony Cats in Dublin, Ohio. They do great work, and need a makeover desperately. It is an all-volunteer no-kill shelter whose primary focus is cat overpopulation in Central Ohio. They provide spay/neuter services for dogs, as well as cats.
I nominate Peaceable Kingdom in Whitehall, Pa. They are run by volunteers truly dedicated to the best of their “charges”. This is a no-kill shelter whose main focus is spay/neuter, and helping as many animals as possible. Sometimes a kitten foster home can have as many as 3 – 5 litters of kittens so they can be helped. The cats are not kept in cages but are allowed to roam the small room, and there aren’t any windows so the cats don’t have the luxury of seeing the outside. Being the room is small, the only way to go is up so each cat has some place to call it’s own.
Please consider Peaceable Kingdom. The felines and volunteers would love to see what can be done!
I nominate Cats Cradle Rescue in Fargo, ND. I nominate them because they do everything they can to save cats and give them the best medical care possible.
I nominate Friend of Feline Rescue Center in Defiance Ohio.
I would like to nominate Cat’s Cradle in Fargo, ND. Since they have started, virtually no cats have been euthanized at the local shelter and they work hand in hand with the Fargo-Moorhead Humane Society.
I would like to nominate Blind Cat Rescue in St Paul’s North Carolina. They give a home for life to blind, fiv and felk cats. Their website is http://blindcatrescue.com/.
Purrfect Pals based out of Arlington, WA takes care of kitties (of all walks of life) from around the great Seattle area, connecting them with forever homes. They are awesome!
I nominate ATCHISON ANIMAL SHELTER in Atchison, Kansas…. I have seen this shelter go above and beyond to help all the furry babies get homes or get back to their home from being lost. She does a remarkable job getting them their forever homes. The lady that cares for these animals is selfless in her determination to help all the animals,,,,PLEASE consider this shelter. They could really use an uplifting in their cause. Thank-you so much
Most definitely PAWSitively Cats Shelter Tucson Arizona!
I’d like to nominate Last Hope Animal Rescue in Wantagh, NY – We are run by volunteers who are dedicated to the care and well-being of all the cats (and dogs) in our programs. All our cats (and dogs) are fully vetted and spayed/neutered before they leave our care.
Friends of Homeless Animals in Aldie, VA, is simply one amazing home for our homeless friends. I’m sure they’d love an update to their “cathouse.”
Oh what a blessing it would be for the Orangeburg, SC, adoption center to receive this cat room make-over! The staff is top-notch and truly love their cats but there is no money in the budget to buy such nice cat shelves, toys and other items. The adoption center is a no-kill, non-profit organization that runs on a shoe-string budget. Thank you, Vertical Cat, for this chance to have a cat room make-over. This would really energize our facility!!!
Hi, everyone! I just want to make sure you know that you need to complete the nomination form in order for your shelter to be considered. Here’s the link:

The Leon County Humane Society located in Tallahasssee Florida recently was impacted with localized flooding damaging one of their cat areas. They do amazing work with cats and are worthy of consideration with this opportunity.
Kit Kat Rescue is in DIRE need of help when it comes to a makeover.
The Founder, Wayne Miller has tried for years to get his own shelter for all the
dogs and cats, but something has always kicked his back side but he continues
to try. He is a HARD worker and his love for the animals is none that I have ever encountered
before.
He has designed on paper, and knows where he would love to have a shelter, But the funds
prevent him in furthering his dream.
so I am hoping that Kit Kat Rescue would be the the choice of a makeover.
A dream come true for Wayne and ALL the animals!!
Thanks for your consideration Joan!
One of Kit Kat Rescue Volunteers,
Kim Boehm
Please join me in nominating Puffy Paws Kitty Haven in Englewood, Fl. (see the nominating link above). This most deserving shelter is also a no-kill hospice for special needs kitties. They need all the help they can get!
What about foster based 501c3 rescues? Are we not eligible since we do not have a shelter (yet)? Please advise whether our supporters can nominate us as we are trying desperately to save cats lives in Central Ohio.
Cat Town Rescue is a struggling rescue desperately needs your help. Right now they have $4 in the bank and cats to care for 🙁

Please help them.
I want to nominate the hard working and loving cat people at Spot and Stripes Bengal Cat Rescue. Kay and company go out of their to travel all over Florida to rescue not only Bengals but many other cat breeds –not to mention saving many a cat from cat mills or fly by night breeders. They work tirelessly and their love for their cats pours out in buckets. They go out of their way to get to know and help every cat that comes into their facility so as to place them in the perfect home. II personally believe in SSBCR’s cause so much that I’ve arranged to have money donated to them to help with their cat rescue efforts on a monthly basis.
PURR In West Virginia is an awesome place! I nominate them!!!!
http://www.blindcatrescue.com/
Any rescue that takes cares of cats with disabilities deserves a helping hand as the cats are a lot slower to get adopted than able bodied cats. A HUGE thank you to all the NO KILL shelters out there for the thankless work you do, you all deserve a helping hand. 🙂
Is there a way to tell if you’ve already been nominated?
I am cheering for FACE Indy Feral and Cat’s Haven in Indianapolis. Their unique focuses passionate dedication makes them special in being feline life savers!
I nominate Cat Guardians in Lombard Illinois, they have been a home for 100 of Stray and Abandoned cats , either finding them nice families to adopt the cats or giving the cats a loving home for the remainder of their lives. I have been a volunteer there for 2 years, have met many kitty friends there. There URL is catguardians.org
I want to nominate The SPCA of North Brevard in Titusville, Florida. They are a fully no kill shelter taking in cats and dogs from all over Florida and parts of Georgia. They have active volunteers and a staff that works hard to make the lives of the kitties better.
They are on Cheney Hwy, Hwy 50, in Titusville, Florida.
Can a shelter be nominated more than once, and if yes, does the number of nominations come into play in deciding finalists? If only once is sufficient to be considered then I won’t mobilize our volunteers to submit multiple nominations. Thank you and hope to hear ASAP as time is short, just heard about this.
I would love to see these items go to the Elizabeth City, North Carolina SPCA. They are raising funds to refurbish a larger building. Their current facilities are overcrowded and these items would be very appreciated. Please check out their website for more details.

Personally I think one of the small no-kill shelters/sanctuaries should be included. Most of the time they have their hands full, extremely limited resources & struggling.
I nominate Happy Tails in Sacramento, CA, dat’s where i meet my mommie
I nominate Lifeline for Pets, Monrovia, California.
I would nominate Protector of Animals in East Hartford, Ct. They are the most loving and caring bunch of volunteers you could ever meet. They so desperately need any help they can get.
FMAR, 10 year old no-kill shelter, has owners, a board of directors, and a dedicated group of volunteers who are intensely passionate about placing the animals in their care in forever homes. In the meantime, the animals are receiving quality care. I am proud to be affiliated with Friends of Michigan Animals Rescue.
It’s the 13th. Voting was suppose to start yesterday. Where is the link for voting?
Sorry! We’re still going through all the entries! We plan to get the voting started by the end of this week. Will keep you posted!
Don’t forget Macon Purrs and Paws in Macon Georgia!!!!!!!! We get so overlooked because Macon is a dog town. It is sad but we are working hard to change that!
How do we see who the finalists are, and where do we vote?
Sorry! We’re still working on the list of finalists! It took a lot longer this year than expected because there are so many awesome nominations! We are close and hope to have it up this weekend!
Can I just say it was VERY difficult to choose just one facility to win? Reading through all the stories, i got seriously Verklempt and it was almost impossible to choose just one worthy shelter!! My heart goes out to all the Volunteers and kind humans caring for all these Beautiful Creatures who can’t help the fact that they were born under ‘unfortunate’ circumstances. Thank you for your KIND HEARTS! And good luck to you all. 😀
