Dutch designer Erik Stehmann definitely has a sense of humor when it comes to cat scratching! This is his creation, DOG Scratchpost, a sisal wrapped cat scratcher in the shape of a dog. What kitty wouldn’t love to sink her claws into this?
This is a very high-end piece of modern design with a hefty price tag of €649, or about $880 US, but I love the concept of turning a 3-D form — especially one with a secondary meaning like this — into a cat scratcher. Do you have any interesting ideas for unique cat scratchers? Get out some rope and your glue gun and go to town! Don’t forget to send us photos of what you come up with!
If you’re not handy with a glue gun and you have money to burn, DOG is available for purchase from Erik Stehmann’s webshop and also from the Soonsalon webshop.
Even though I have a deep aversion to dogs, I love this — oh, the satisfaction cats could have on this!!!
This dog is wonderful and our customers love it! It is a constant and indispensable in our collection!
I smiled as soon as I saw it. On the other hand, I have mixed feelings. Lots of cats and dogs do get along. The price took my smile away. If your cat or cats use this a lot, that’s $880 quickly gone when it starts to look really worn! Playing around and on it, cats could easily tip it over. It looks really well done so for that price I’d keep it as an art piece.
LOL I LOVE it!
I would never use this, even if it was a tenth the price (which would still be too much). My cats have always gotten along very well with dogs, and I’m also a dog lover. I don’t like the idea of promoting interspecies violence like this.
My cats are quite happy with ordinary cardboard scratching posts.
I think it’s funny! And my cats are smart enough to know that isn’t a real dog, so I don’t think it would increase hostility. I’m thinking a giraffe would be fun…that long neck to scratch on!
