These new cat climbing structures from CatastrophiCreations use stretched fabric to create walkways and resting spots. Pretty brilliant!
The fabric seems to make for a comfortable surface, plus it’s flexible, allowing you to create all kinds of different angles, and it would be much cheaper to ship than solid wood shelves. It looks like they are using a nice heavy-duty fabric, which should stand up to wear and tear.
I like that you can easily customize the colors, too. My main question would be if it’s easy to clean. I may have to check out one of these myself! Visit the CatastrophiCreations Etsy shop to see the current designs.
These climbing structures look great, and the cats seem to enjoy them!
Thanks for the reference to the CatastrophiCreatiions etsy page. Their items look wonderful, are inexpensive and seem incredibly flexible. One item I would appreciate more research/highlighting of is the wall shelves for feeding dishes. When I was younger my cats needed to be fed where the dogs couldn’t reach the food. Now as I have aged (with some balance issues) I need to feed the cats on surfaces I can easily reach without bending (and falling). These feeding shelves seem ideal; I will be ordering some, but I would appreciate knowing how others have used the feeding shelves.
Which feeding shelves?
Their feeding station is very hard to keep clean. They claim it is dig free. Big lies, Food everywhere and dogs with cat farts……
This is a great idea, and I would think it could be made so that the fabric is detachable for throwing in the wash, changing out the colors according to the season/decor choices, etc. Lovely models, particularly the polydactyl Lynx Point!
Definitely follow up about the cleaning. That is my main concern as well, so interested to hear further details.
Love this new idea! A cross between a hammock and a shelf. Ditto for being able to detach it to switch fabric and wash the other.
I questioned how to clean but also, would this kind of fabric get caught on their nails? I know I’ve had to remove cats or kittens from some carpets, curtains, and other kinds of fabrics where their nails get caught. Even those whose nails are trimmed sometimes get caught on fabrics.
I’ve had our shelves & raceways for over 8 months. No kittehs have gotten their claws caught on the fabric. The cats LOVE being up high in our living room. I was concerned at first that they weren’t using the shelves much but that quickly changed. We have a new addition to the house (former barn cat) who lives on the wall half the time (literally).
These are so easy to make yourself! We catified our whole apartment for $50. Why spend hundreds for garage carpentry when you have a mitersaw, drill, 1x10x8 pine board, clearance canvass fabric, 90 degree brackets from Home Depot and a car to get you there. And the one we bought from them we ended re finishing it because is was capable of splinters and the edges were way too sharp. A little time with sand paper does a lot. Again why am I fixing stuff I paid top dollar for?
I guess Ken, you nevertheless got a really sharp design idea, really cheap! 😉
