If you’ve been holding your breath waiting for Katio to be available, the wait is almost over! They are officially taking pre-orders for shipping late summer, plus if you order now you will get $25 off each unit plus FREE SHIPPING to US addresses!
Katio is a window enclosure that fits in standard windows just like an air conditioning unit. Simple to install and made of thick ultra-sturdy molded plastic, Katio has a clear window facing outside so kitty can watch the birds.
Inside your home, Katio has two doors that open for easy access and cleaning. One door has a cat flap installed and there’s a little ledge for kitty to perch on when entering and exiting the Katio. Because Katio is well-ventilated and can be closed off from the inside of the house, you could also use it for the litter box. This would bring the litter box up to window height, making it easier to clean.
Katio has been in development for quite a while and the folks at Katco LLC are very excited to finally make it available to you. Please visit mykatio.com to learn more and to pre-order now and take advantage of the savings!
I have 4 cats. I own a townhouse and have beds in the windows already,
But I’d be very interested to see what the finished project like like, and size!
I could put it in my bedroom window, overlooking the patio where the birds
Go!!! For me, now being on disability, the cost is an issue too.
Hey Judi, thanks for your comment. You can see the dimensions in the picture at the top of this post. The dimensions are 18″H x 22″D x 24″W and with the side extension panels, Katio fits windows up to 48″ wide. We’re taking direct pre-orders now in our store at http://mykatio.com/store/
Thanks
I would consider this for my cats if the enclosure had more air vents. There are only three vents and they are very small. Seems like the space could get stuffy — and certainly quite smelly if used to contain a litter box!
Hi Christina, we’ve actually been testing our Katio prototype – and had friends test it out – with all our cats for 3 years without issue in the hot Georgia heat [and cold] without issue! The vents are large enough to keep the smell out while allowing fresh air to flow through as well. The temperature in the Katio stays pretty much the same as the temperature in your house. We also have zero odor issues and the Katio is installed in our office window right next to our desk.

Would like to know the pricing …. I am disabled and on limited budget.
Hi Sheri, the Katio is actually ADA Compliant at wheelchair height in your window! As for price, we’re currently offering $25 Off + Free Shipping for $274.99.
Thanks
I don’t quite see what is the advantage of a Katio, that in any case fits into a window and then is closed off from the outside by another clear window. It seems to me that kitties would be better off simply sitting by a large window!
Hi Shimona, the Katio has many advantages, and addresses many problems, but it’s first and foremost a litter box vs. just a window perch.
Katio advantages:
Space saving – gets the litter box off your floor and gives you a place to put the box that’s not in your bathroom, laundry, kitchen, dining room, next to the toilet, et al – especially great if you live in a small house/townhouse/condo/house. We live in a townhouse, so we only have windows on one side, so we actually don’t have anywhere to put our litter boxes except out the window
Odorless – Keeps the odors outside where they belong, while allowing fresh air in
Safe – Completely secure once installed in your window
ADA Compliant – No more bending over, squatting or kneeling down to scoop the box since it’s at window height
Contains litter spread
We’ve been using our prototype for the past 3 years with our 3 cats without issue and they love it!
Thanks
A nice possibility for city cats, especially! Some friends of mine have installed something quite similar and it gets a lot of use.
Yep, our 3 cats love it and we’ve let friends test it out with their cats as well – one of them turned 20 last October and he fell in love with the Katio!
Thanks for the comments =^..^=
I don’t understand why they would make it as a closed in box – with the doors isolating it from the main room. I cannot see my cats wanting to go into a (relatively) small box where they are trapped with only one way out just so they can look outside. They can do that by looking out a window and then they would have much more open space around them. Maybe in an apartment in the city it has some advantage? As for litterbox – not for multicat household. you are setting up a “one cat trapping another situation.
LNB, thanks for your comments, but we’ve been testing our Katio prototype with our 3 cats for 3 years now, plus we’ve let friends test it on their cats and they all love it! Our friends’ cat Sam turned 20 last October and he not only loved the Katio, but it actually stopped their cats from fighting.
To answer your question about the doors isolating it from the main room, the whole purpose is to keep odors out while allowing fresh air in through the louvered side vents. The doors also contain the crazy litter spread that our big boy cat Lars loves to kick everywhere. The Katio is also at window height, so no more bending/squatting/kneeling down to scoop or replace litter anymore. It’s also ADA Compliant!
We also live in a townhouse with no place to put our litter box since we only have windows on one side of our house since we have a shared wall on the other side.
