Announcing the first ever “Cats & Guitars” themed art exhibit, coming January 2016! This unique art exhibit will explore the mysterious but undeniable connection between cats and guitars, with every piece featuring some reference to both the feline form and the art of luthiery (the construction and repair of stringed instruments).
This project is near and dear to my heart, since my sweetheart (and fiancé) is a luthier (Allred Guitars) and guitar player (check out The Haymarket Squares, he’s the one with the epic mustache!) so we have our own special connection between cats and guitars, but the more I look, the more I find other guitar players/makers who are cat lovers. So, an idea was born.
The exhibit will be held at Chartreuse Gallery in downtown Phoenix, AZ in January 2016. I’ll be sure to share more information about show dates as we get closer to the event, but right now we’re accepting submissions from artists!
The exhibition is open to everyone and every type of media. The only limitation is that entries must represent original works of art or design and must contain an image of or reference to a cat AND a guitar or a ukulele, banjo, mandolin, lute, or bass guitar (guitar cases are acceptable).
Full details on how to submit artwork can be found at catsandguitars.com. The submission deadline is November 15, 2015. Submissions will be reviewed and artists will be notified of acceptance by December 1.
I am producing this exhibit along with my friend Daniel Shepherd — an artist, ambient musician and cat lover himself — who will serve as the show coordinator. We are working closely with the staff at Chartreuse, Nancy Hill, owner and Mike Oleskow, Gallery Manager/Curator.

Too bad no violins….
Wow, can you say Jackson Galaxy!?! and this could be expanded in future, to include international stringed instruments including but not limited to oud, kamanche…the list is endless!
Fun!
