The folks who make the SansBug pop-up mosquito net recently contacted me to report that they’ve had several customers write to tell them that their product can work quite well for cat containment, so they sent me one to try out myself. I was looking for an alternative to the big, clunky, hard to set-up cage we usually use when I bring cats to the studio, so I was interested to see how the SansBug worked out.
First, I set- it up in the living room at home, and of course it was immediately filled with cats. Anything new is explored right away, and they decided it makes a pretty good fort. Ando and Andy make themselves right at home.
I also took it to the studio on a day when Andy needed to come with me to do some modeling. You can see below how small it is when folded and how big it is when open, plus it takes literally 2 seconds to set-up, much better than the finger-pinching cage!
I set up the tent with all of Andy’s amenities and he was quite pleased with his new dressing room.
A few words of caution…
I would never use the SansBug for cats that are frantic about being contained, they could easily tear through the screen, it’s just not meant to withstand that kind of use, but for calm cats that just need to be contained in a small area, this is a great option. Also, NEVER leave cats unattended, especially outside, in the SansBug. This could be great for keeping kittens in a play area while you work, or like in my case to prevent cats from running all over in an unfamiliar place like my studio, which has lots of hiding places. Definitely use with caution, but lots of people are reporting that this is a great product for use with cats under the right circumstances.
The SansBug measures 86″ x 39″ x 35″ and folds down to a 26″ disc with carrying case. Available with a poly floor or a more durable tarp floor. $49 with free shipping on Amazon.
I can see that this would definitely come in handy under the circumstances you write about!
this is a great way to introduce a new small cat or dog into your home if you have other pets.after about 3 days they should all be used to each others smells and new animal can come out
This would be awesome for all kinds of situations, including an off-site adoption visiting tent for felines…if it were taller.
Hmmm. It could be handy as an enclosure to use if you have to evac from your home with your cat.
I do love how your cats all check in to investigate…
I bought one of these (the largest size) years ago to use with my cats when we went to our cottage in the summer. We have a catio at home, and I wanted them to be able to enjoy the outdoors at the cottage as well. One of my cats did not like it. He preferred to sit inside the house at the screened patio sliding door. My other cat loved it! I made it comfy by covering the floor with a thrift store comforter and put a small litterbox, water dish, bed, and a sturdy box she could climb on in there. The whole thing was on our deck, and she would saty out there all day if I just hanging out and could watch her. For cats with the right personality, it’s perfect.
