I’ve see sifting litter boxes before, but never one that looked this good! The new Luuup Litter Box is a stylish update to the old-school sifting litter box — one I wouldn’t mind having in my home!
It works like other sifting litter boxes. There are three trays with slots in the bottom. You stack the three trays with the slots staggered to create a solid bottom. To remove waste, lift the top tray, allowing clean litter to fall to the tray below, and dump the solids.
After dumping the solids, turn the empty tray 180° and place at the bottom of the stack. Here’s an animation to show you how easy it is. All components of the Luuup Litter Box will be made in Toronto, Canada.
The box is generously sized, measuring 20.2″ long by 15.4″ wide. It’s not too tall, just 5.2″, so elderly cats and kittens can easily access the box.
The new Luuup Litter Box is currently running a Kickstarter campaign and offering some great deals for anyone who supports the project. Check out their Kickstarter page to get all the details.
I saw this on Facebook and I think it’s a great idea! Except…the sides are way, WAY too low, and the box overall is too small. I use Rubbermaid totes as litter boxes because my kitties like to pee in a semi-standing position and I need very high sides. This box would never work. Also, one of my cats is very large (22 pounds!) and his rear would lop over the sides in this little box! I really hope that ultimately this litter box comes in several different sizes.
Just set this inside your Rubbermaid totes…
I use a Rubbermaid coat as well, but I just measured it and it appears to be the same size as this litter box. I measured it using the inside measurements, so that could make a difference.but I do like the notion of putting it in a tote. And if you see this, could you tell me the measurements of your tote? Thank you
It’s roughly 15 x 20 on the OUTSIDE, whihc means the inside, because of the slope, is a much smaller area for the kitty to maneuver. They need to be bigger and less slope.
i agree plus i need a lid–my cats need privacy lol
The concept is great, the shipping is expensive at $15 each. For 4 boxes the shipping is $60, which seems like a lot. I have 8 foster cats and would love to get these but they are a little out of my price range. I use crystal litter and this seems like it would work well except maybe soft stools would stick.
The ability to wipe down or wash the top box without dumping all the litter out is awesome.
These are very attractive and a lot of cats will probably find them perfect!
I think this is a great starting point, but I agree with others who said it’s too low. The low profile in front does work great for older/physically challenged cats, or for kittens, but maybe make the sides slope upward so the back is higher. Also, a couple of sized would be great…some =, like my shelter, would appreciate larger boxes. And are you planning to offer a covered version? Some of our cats refuse to use any box unless it’s covered (and if you do decide to do a covered version, PLEASE be sure that the “overlap” where the top connects to the bottom is INSIDE the bottom. Any “spillage” would drip inside, not outside, like EVERY covered box I’ve seen. UGH! And lastly, are you planning to donate to any animal charities (maybe via a lottery system, so small shelters (like mine) have a chance for some much-needed finds? I’d be far more likely to purchase this box over others if I knew some (even a small portion) went to help the animals they’ll be profiting from…
This would be perfect for my home needs!! I want one!
I have been looking for one of these for YEARS. I first saw the idea on an infomercial back in the late 1980s and have never seen it again, but it’s a fantastic concept. I was about to go take a dremel tool and try to make my own in frustration, but I’m pretty stoked to finally be able to buy them!
Should be bigger though.
I bought one from Indegogo, back in April, was supposed to get it in June. Has never showed up, did you buy one? If so where did you det it? I am desperate to get one.
Where can I buy one?
I plan on buying one regardless of the price but a locking lid would be great
I want to purchase the sifter box. How much would be the total cost for shipping and handling. I went donate and saw two prices. One was cost and one was pledge. I live in US
Can you use regular litter, or does it only work with the fine grain clumping litter?
I love the idea too, but like others on here it is to small and the sides are too low. Most of my cats are large 16 to 22 pounds so need lots of room. I hope these will be offered in larger sizes as I have 10 litter boxes and would love to replace them with one of these.
I’d love to order 3 of these if you start making them larger. These are far too small for my 36 pound cat. (Plus the 3 other cats who live here.
I was just about to order one but then realized that the photo on the website does not show the top guard and does not mention it in the literature. I could probably get by with the short size, but definitely not without the litter guard.
Would get one for sure it is was bigger – great concept!
I agree that this box needs a lid. I have a dog that gets into the used litter. Higher sides would also be nice as my cats scoop out the litter. Larger would be an acess.
Eons ago, this litter pan existed in a different name. It came with one of my rescued cats. It works! I was sad when it wore out and I could not get another. Those who complain about emptying it, tip it to the corner and empty it into an empty kitty litter pail and shut the lid. Once in a while, take the newly emptied pan outside and hose it off. Air dry it and return to the bottom of the stack. Need high sides? Totes come in many sizes. Just make a door in one end, ventilate the top, and invite the kitty. Or visit the local Habitat Restore for a cabinet that can be used as a kitty restroom. $15 and you have added a half bath to your abode! I cannot say anything negative about this litter pan and I do not see any complaints that cannot be overcome.
So I bought two sets, and I am rather disappointed in this product.
The litter clumps stick to the box, so it needs to be scraped and it then gets lodged in the slits.
This means the tray you just “cleared”, needs to be washed.
Also, the litter makes its way through the trays and is all over the floor.
Was excited about this product and it turned out I spent $100 for 2 sets and they are terribly awful.
SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!
I purchased this in April and finally got it in August. It is the worse cat box I have ever used!!! It is so much trouble and ridiculous to use! My cats make 10 times more mess even with the cover. You basically cannot move it at all or else the slits shift and cat litter spews all over. They are wrong in saying the sides keep you from turning it the wrong way when you have litter in it and trying to put the one on the bottom it doesn’t work because of the weight. Plus everything sticks to the sides and good luck getting the litter clumps out of the slits!! GIANT PAIN to clean every single time you sift! They gave me all kinds of rules and steps to follow when I complained. Only used it for 2 months and couldn’t take it anymore went back to my old box with a liner HELLO easy! They also would not even consider giving me my money back!!!
I hate this litter box. It’s an overpriced, overly-engineered product that doesn’t work.
The holes get clogged, making it impossible to sift DIRTY litter (unlike the clean, virginal litter they show in their video).
Now, I have to clean THREE litter boxes instead of ONE.
Save your money.
This product sucks.
Do not buy this. It leaks litter everywhere, and the clumps stick to the sides of the box so you still have to scrape it loose with the scoop. I contacted the company about it and they told me how I had to be super careful with exactly how I moved the boxes to prevent leakage (which it already was) and they said they suggested using one of two kinds of litter with it (and one available in Canada!). Stick with a regular plastic box!
yes ! i agree with you guys , need Bigger size , its too small
Appreciate the reviews guys, sorry that most of you don’t seem pleased with it
