I need your opinion. These bubble carriers for cats are all the rage now. It’s a hardshell backpack with a clear bubble window for cats to look out. I’d like to hear from anyone who has one. I’m interested to know how and where you use it and if your cat likes it. Also, what size is your cat? For those of you who haven’t used one, what do you think of the design? Please leave a comment on this post.
If you love it, they are available on Amazon for around $70.

It’s not a choice I would make, but it’s good that there are a lot of choices out there. Cats are soft and they love softness. So I would not choose this hard carrier; and any carrier I would choose would have to be visible to me, so backpacks are out.
I don’t if there’s a such thing as feline chlaustrophobia, but as a human claustrophobic that I am, if I was put in there, I’d freak out and faint lol But in case of natural disaster or apalcolyps and you have to run with your kitties, it’s a great choice. It doesn’t look like it can be smashed easily and it looks pretty safe if there are flying debris. You may have to cover the big window so that the kitty won’t get scared though lol
I wouldn’t use it as an everyday carrier for a vet visit or traveling because it doesn’t look too comfortable and you can’t see how your kitty is right away. Maybe it works better if you put in on your front, not your back? Haha
I don’t think it has enough ventilation. If more of the side panels were mesh, I’d like it better. I think my Ginger would freak.
Not for any of my three cats. Too confining. Too small. My cats would have panic attacks. A carrier with vertical openings all the way around and a second “door” at the top are much better — the air can move inside and they can be (partially) covered, if needed.
It’s far too small for my liking. The cat can barely move or stretch out if he wants to lay down
Offhand, I don’t like it. It looks too cramped for any but the smallest cats or for kittens.
It does not look like it would be comfortable for the average cat (or the person wearing the backpack). My cats have no interest in staying in a sitting position for any length of time. I would not buy it. (I also agree with poster who said having the cat in a carrier on your back would not be ideal.)
It looks cool, but it seems cramped and claustrophobic. I would not get it for my cats, because I’d want them to be able to stretch out and not feel so constrained. I also would worry that they may not be getting enough air. There doesn’t appear to be any air holes in the bubble window, only a few on the sides and front.
Great novelty look but totally impractical for me. I would not buy this. Both of mine are not wild about small spaces and, in a carrier, prefer to lay full out. Neither requirement would be available with this one. From the human perspective, it looks awkward to carry and I am not a big fan of wearing a backpack to begin with. I like to see my passengers and would not have any line of sight without slinging it off shoulder and through the air – not thinking this maneuver would be well received by the passengers either. Fun for a picture though……
That is terrible! Cruel and ridiculous! As a cat lover, this is the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen! How would you like to be locked in a tight container with no space to move and forced to be exposed to all scary environments like a thing! So selfish and inhumane!
My cats have all of them been indifferent to style, and have preferred top-entry carriers with room enough to stretch a bit & turn around. I also have a strong preference for longer top-entry carriers because, from experience, it’s much easier to get ailing or injured or bandaged cats in and out of one. So, I’ve looked at these, because they are pretty & I like the bubble window … but the vertical orientation, the clamshell-type opening (an uncooperative cat would have a field day with it!), the comparative smallness of the interior have all put me off.
What I’d really like to see (not that anyone has asked) would be a sturdy soft-sided carrier with a rigid frame, something that wouldn’t smoosh inward.
I’m not a fan of these carriers. I think my cats are more comfortable in a lying down position in their carriers. Mine are a large breed too so these would be far too small for even the smallest one. Also the lack of ventilation makes me feel like they might feel claustrophobic inside. What may be cutesy for people who like to exhibit their cats for their own amusement, may not be the best for the cats well-being and sense of security.
OMG NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
This is a cruel and unnecessary way to carry a cat. My cat would be terrified. It is too small and enclosed. My cat wants to lay down in a carrier, which this would not enable.
This only serves the person holding it.
It looks like it forces the cat to stand up which is not nice if the cat is scared. There is no way for the cat to comfortably hide. It’s not soft for the cat and basically reminds me of putting the cat in a submarine for medical testing. It also looks like it has very little ventilation and what little it does have looks like a paw could get caught. In short it looks designed for trendy and overly precious humans with very little consideration of the cat.
This carrier appears to be much too small for the average cat, especially if they wish to lie down. The cat is forced to sit perpendicular to the direction of travel when the carrier is worn as a backpack, at least with this design, a position which can exacerbate motion sickness in susceptible animals. In addition I would have serious concerns about the cat overheating in the carrier, as air flow seems to be extremely restricted and the bubble would act as a heat sink and the hard shell, black fabric and full enclosure would act as a heat trap. I think these are very cute but a terrible design for an actual, living, creature.
If you wouldn’t put a baby in there [and I don’t think anyone would], then I wouldn’t put a cat in there. It is too frighteningly similar to a washing machine for my taste and some 6-year old is going to think so too and put a pet in a washer after seeing this.
No, would not use this. No room for the cat to move, not enough air flow, looks very hot in warm weather. What if the zipper came apart suddenly, as they have for backpacks I have owned? Absolutely would never purchase or use this.
I wouldn’t use it and don’t think most cats would like it. It seems very little space for them to move and Id think very hot, unless its winter in the north. I saw it had air holes but still not enough for cats to have a lot of air.
I commute by motorcycle, and sometimes don’t have access to a car… But I’d really have to see how my boys took to it before I’d try it more than walking around the block. On the other had, I really think Woodrow wood like it.
I wouldn’t buy this style because I have severe rheumatoid arthritis and cannot use backpacks. When I take my cat out (usually to the vet) I have to balance her carrier on my lap in a wheelchair. This design appears to be top heavy which could lead to tip-overs. I do like the bright yellow and window bubble. If this type of carrier were horizontal with 2 hand grips and very, very lightweight, I would try it.
They do make a horizontal version that is not a backpack.
Love the idea of a backpack to carry my kitty. However I do not think that the kitty would be comfortable. Cats love to lounge and stretch out. And may feel confined with so few openings. Flip it on it’s side. Make most of the side window. Maybe. Also if one side is soft might Kitty get a bit squished? Or is that side reinforced? Well my cats are Too Big anyway. Not fat, big. Over the years have had many ( don’t worry they lived to old age) but my vet keeps asking me what I do to make them Soo big. Cat carriers are rather a joke in this household, unfortunately. Even most litter boxes are too small for them to get into.
this is one of those cute products that in reality i’m not so sure they’re a good thing. i get claustrophobic just looking at the model cat’s face next to hard plastic. looks like the cats are stuck in an upright position without room to move around—it looks poorly ventilated and would get hot fast in the sunshine. definitely not the carrier for me. we invested in a soft sided sturdi products carrier in a size plenty big for kitty to move around.
My cat is 16-17 pounds, but I wouldn’t subject any member of my family to this format of carrier.
I prefer a soft sturdy carrier, near my body with the occupant in sight.
From volunteering at a welterweight cats, I have learned about rabbits as well and they can be fragile, and prefer to stay grounded.
This item, which is one of a random list of cool looking items sold by this same person on Amazon, seems to be mostly for the benefit of the human being wanting attention.
As for dogs.. granted I had Labrador Retrievers and this carrier.. any carrier, wouldn’t be possible .. But even small dogs need to walk and IMO are not accessories, but family members and sentient beings.
I know many dogs and some cats like riding in care and need protection, but I would not personally choose this format.
Autocorrect strikes again. I volunteer with cats at a shelter. We of course have dogs and a good number of bunnies.
I would worry about overheating (in warmer climates), and I agree with jmuhj that visibility is important.
While adorable, we I a cat, I’d be totally claustrophobic in one of these things!!! Does not at all look comfortable for any of my fur-babies – especially NOT my 20+lb black cat. You asked … CATherine >^..^<
I do not have one. I don’t think it looks very comfortable and it seems to me it would be very hot. Where is the ventilation? I personally would not put my cat(s) in something like that.
The design is cute – kind of looks like an astronaut. However, I wouldn’t put either of my cats in it (even the one that weighs 7.5 lbs) because it looks too confining and claustrophobic. I think there would be protests. I also don’t like designs where I can’t see my kitties and they can’t see me.
Claustrophobic! I can’t imagine putting a cat into
this. Looks like torture!
It doesn’t look like the cat can even lie down in there. It looks cool, but my cats are always nervous and scared… I wouldn’t try to cram them in there just to look cool to the other vet patrons. I’m now sure one would get them in there, either
It looks scary for the cat and doesn look like a lot of air flow.
Although it looks stylish, it seems very claustrophobic and not breathable enough for a cat. It looks rather small too. Very pretty but you gotta think of the kitty!
I would not get this for any of my cats. I don;t care for the design It just lookes too cramped an suffocating
They look awfully claustrophobic to me. As fun as the design is, I just don’t think it would be comfortable for a cat. I love carriers like the round Sleepypod because it allows kitty to curl up in a very natural position.
I can’t see getting any of my cats in there and getting it closed before they run out. Plus my cats are of the larger variety and I doubt they would fit.
Thanks, everyone, for all your honest feedback! I agree with all the comments about this being too small and cramped. Perhaps appropriate for very small cats who are acclimated to it from an early age, but otherwise not so practical.
Agreed. I have 4 cats but only my smallest girl is able to fit in. She is a very shy girl and really loved the bubble bag. She even sleeps in the bag and will eep through the bubble window even at home. Ventilation is ok for her. I use it for a carrier for her too. Too small for my bous.
Horribly hateful !!!!!
No. Just, NO.
We got one of the slightly different versions in blue for our 10 lb Cornish Rex. It is not quite so hard shell as this version and is a little bigger. We have not tried it with the bubble yet because it has been too warm. We used the screen window. It is a little small, but will probably be OK for a short backpack walk. I liked another brand that was soft sided better, but it also had wheels and a handle, which makes the backpack a lot less comfortable for humans. We took our cat on about a mile hike in the backpack. He was ok when we stopped to rest on a bench, but the trail was kind of rough, up and down, and he became pretty unhappy on the way back to the car. He gets motion sickness, but we are not sure if it is just anxiety that might be overcome by practice, or if it is truly a physical inner ear problem. We recently took a short 3 day trip to Memphis with him. He did well in the car (in a larger kennel) as long as we drove on the highway, but when we tried more scenic, wandering roads he did get sick. We are working on turning him into an adventure cat (at least mildly adventurous!). My take on this, is probably not for a lot of cats and their peeps, but for some it will be ok. You just need to get your cat’s opinion first!!
I have a mesh backpack carrier that also has wheels and a strap so it can be carried over the shoulder. My cats aren’t wild about carriers or going anywhere in them, but they don’t seem to hate it any more than I’d expect, and I feel like the fabric/mesh combo is more comfortable and breathable for them than the hard plastic kind. The backpack helps when I am transporting all three of them, so I have one cat carrier in each hand and one on my back. And it also has handy straps for buckling them into the car seats so I don’t have to worry about their carriers sliding around when I’m driving.
